"And We created from the Water every Living thing..." - Qur'an, 21:30

The Water of Life is a companion album to my African-inspired debut, The Fire Inside. This time, I'm using the element of water and the genre of traditional Celtic music to explore the meanings behind Islamic spirituality and philosophy. Based on concepts found within the Holy Qur'an, the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him), and the writings of those who followed him (from medieval mystics like Hasan al-Basri and Rumi to modern sages like Abdal Hakim Murad), the songs narrate the soul's journey through love, doubt, struggle, and faith on its way back to God.

Inspired by the greats of Celtic music like Silly Wizard, Dougie MacLean, and Dervish, this album could be said to "put the dervish into Dervish"! Whirl through traditional Scottish and Irish folk dances - reels, jigs, slip jigs, hornpipes, and strathspeys - and quench your thirst for the Water of a spiritually fulfilled Life, while traces of ambient electronica and African "desert blues" echo in the background... Salaam and Sláinte!
